Run Like Hell…

This morning I was all ambitious and got up early. I decided to get some fully-caffeinated coffee for the first time in 3 weeks. I told myself it has been a good run, but I’m really a better person with coffee (this is one of the things I’ve been going back and forth with for a while, but I’ve decided that as with anything: moderation).

After I got my iced coffee I drove around to check out my new neighborhood a bit. I then got the idea to map out a run I want to try. I’m making it a goal this year to run more and have even decided to run a half marathon! In fact, I just signed up for the Run Like Hell half-marathon in Portland! It feels scary and makes my stomach turn. I think that’s why I wanted to drive the route first before running it… to ease my fears about doing it…I should have known better. Now that I’ve mapped it out, I know how hard it’s going to be! In some ways this is a good thing…because I can plan for it — you know, hydrate properly and get the proper playlist on my iPod, etc. But, honestly, the planning is what’s making me tired and nervous. So, instead of sitting here talking about it and planning for it and becoming fearful of it, I’m going to go get my Nike’s on now and just do it.

(I just started reading “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and, well Mr. Covey, I believe you forgot #1: Drink Coffee.)

(Full disclosure, I don’t wear Nike’s they aren’t good for people with wide feet:) like myself.)
