Accountability and Follow Through: BFFs FOREVER!

Accountability. This is something I’ve avoided in the past. Being accountable means you have to follow through. And, as a few people (cough, James, cough, my parents) will tell you, I haven’t always been the best at follow through.

I’ve learned, recently though, that accountability and follow through are like best friends–they always get along, except for when they don’t. Best friends, Accountability and Follow Through, will talk for hours and hours late into the night about anything and everything. Accountability will ask Follow Through what she thinks she should wear the next day and they will lay it out together, piece by piece and, after Follow Through texts Accountability in the morning to remind her, Accountability will show up to school with the best. outfit. EVER! Unfortunately, Follow Through will sometimes decide to wear a similar outfit (on the same day) and that’s when they stop talking to each other (for at least 2 full days). And when they don’t talk, that’s when they fall apart. They don’t eat. They withdraw. They find NEW best friends, like Excuse (the girl who everyone knows is no good for them, but they know she knows where the good parties are that weekend), and Blaim, (the cool rich girl who invites you over and in turn uses you to make herself look better to her parents).

When Accountability and Follow Through finally make up, they don’t know why they would ever spend time apart again..they’re so similar to one another and make each other laugh like, ALL the time!

O.K., so this metaphor is a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea…when I have accountability for my goals, my actions, I am WAY more likely to have follow through in my life. So, in that vein, I’d like your help! I have a list of goals I’d like to accomplish this month, and I need you to keep me accountable!

1. I will wake up at 5 am every week day.

2. I will follow my work schedule as closely as possible

3. I will finish with all work by 5pm and turn off my computer at that time.

4. I will walk the dogs at least 4 times per week (this used to be an everyday thing, but somehow it’s more like 2 or 3 times now!)

5. I will follow my half-marathon training schedule exactly.

6. I will make dinner 4 times per week (and ask James to make it at least twice per week…he’s a really good cook and probably would want to do it more than that, if we made it a priority 🙂 )

7. I will spend at least 1 night per week being social (IRL, not online)!

8. I will take 2 full days completely off per week! (okay, for the next month, maybe it will be 1.5 days :))

9. I will spend at least 30 minutes per morning in silence.

10. I will take 1 frame per day for the next 30 days on film.

That’s it…not too hard…right? With your help in keeping me accountable, I should be able to do all of these things!

What are your goals for this month? Who will you ask to help keep you accountable? If you need someone to help you, let me know, I’d be happy to help!
