Jill & Shay | The Wedding!!

A while back I wrote a little blog about these two. I wrote how down-to-earth and chill they are. I wrote how creative and good to each other they are. I wrote about my infatuation with their little dog, Gia! But, what I didn’t write about is their love for each other. Because, you see, I hadn’t fully seen it yet. I hadn’t fully realized that all these things that they are individually, also apply to the way they love each other. Their love is down-to-earth, chill, creative and it is good. It is BIG! As big as Jill’s beautiful, infectious and always-ready laugh! As big as Shay’s genuine, kind and gentle heart. And it was everywhere on their wedding day at the super-unique wedding venue, the Sunshine Mill in The Dalles, Oregon! And when I saw it full-blown like this, I was awe-struck! Jill and Shay, I am in awe of YOU! Thank you for sharing this kind of love with all of your friends and family the way you do! It was a beautiful thing to behold. Congratulations, many times over!

Meghan & Danny | Married!

He read his vows aloud, smiling his big, sweet smile, as he did so. She beamed brightly as she watched. She looks at him often this way. And, he, likewise. It wasn’t just because of this big, happy, special occasion that they looked at each other in this way. This is what their love looks like…from the inside out. It is radient, big, beaming. This is the kind of love Meghan and Danny share with each other. This is the kind of love, the kind of life, they share with their friends, their family. It’s beautiful. I can’t help but bem as I write these words, thinking back on their day. I couldn’t have been happier to witness this day. Congratulations, Meghan and Danny…I look forward to adventuring with you soon!

Alex & Erik | The Wedding!

Sometimes people come into your life at the right time. You don’t know why, or how, but there they are..ready for you to embrace them. For Alex and Erik, they came together through mutual friends, and they embraced it and each other.

As I watched their beautiful day unfold, it was like watching a long embrace…the embrace of lovers, that are also best friends, and life-long partners as they face the world. At the end of the night, I sighed, a big, long sigh of gratefulness for this couple for sharing this day with not only their family and friends, but with James and I…it was a reminder to us all, of the great beauty this world has to offer, if only we embrace it. Thanks, you two…

Alex & Erik | Engaged!!

What do you say, Percy? I am thinking
of sitting out on the sand to watch
the moon rise. Full tonight.
So we go, and the moon rises, so beautiful it

makes me shudder, makes me think about
time and space, makes me take
measure of myself: one iota
pondering heaven. Thus we sit,

I thinking how grateful I am for the moon’s
perfect beauty and also, oh! How rich
it is to love the world. Percy, meanwhile,
leans against me and gazes up into
my face. As though I were
his perfect moon.
-Mary Oliver

The way he gazes upon her face, as though she were his perfect moon… A reflection of light onto him. That’s what their love looks like to me.

Alex and Erik will be married this very weekend at the Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth, WA! And, I am ridiculously excited about it! First, here are few images from their engagement session…

Lauren & Skuyler | Married! | First Look

I have so much to say about this couple, but I’m going to wait until Thursday when I post their entire wedding. I will say though, that it is people like Lauren and Skuyler who make you feel like the world is going to be alright after all–like there’s nothing but a bright future ahead! Lauren and Skuyler, thank you for sharing your wedding day with James and me, and I wish you nothing but a beautiful future. I have no doubt, that it will be bright, full of love…and sunny!

Jennifer & Dusty | Married! | Sneak Peek

As I stood along the lake watching the moon rise over the basalt cliffs, I was in awe of the beauty that surrounded us. I was hyper-aware of the vastness of the earth. It made me think how absolutely extraordinary it is that in this great, wide world we can find that one person who makes us feel so alive, it hurts. I looked back at the celebration of marriage happening on the beautiful Wittig Ranch and I couldn’t help but smile widely, knowing the Jennifer had, in all of this vast world, found her love, Dusty. And, we are so grateful that these two found us and allowed us to document their celebration! I’m so excited to share their full wedding with you this Thursday!

A space for calm

Apparently, I work best when there’s just enough work that it must get done now, but not so much that the stress of it all paralyzes me. Or, maybe I just work well when I learn to practice that oh-so-elusive act: balancing. In fact, I know this to be true.

For me, balance looks like this: plenty of time off away from my computer, from social media, from things related to “work”. It’s starting my day sitting in silence. It’s the practice of breathing and smiling and being aware of that. It’s lots of naps under the tree. It’s planning meals, preparing them, and enjoying them with James, friends, family (and preferably all three at the same time). It’s creating a beautiful home, filled with memories and the right amount of “things” that don’t represent material wealth, but experiential wealth. It’s making time for me (weather that’s to work out, get my hair did, to read a book, or even finding the perfect new pair of shoes) and feeling great that I did so!

I’m in that space today. Tons of emails have been sent, plans made, house cleaned, meals prepped. This is the space I strive to live in. Free from distractions, free from comparison, free to live in my own head and simultaneously connected to the people that matter the most to me. Summer is almost here, and man it feels good to live in this space for a while…The trick is…when there’s more work than time, when the house isn’t just so, when I get an email that throws me for a loop–those are the times where I must MAKE time to get into this space. To make life, this very present moment, feel GREAT! To create that space for peace and calm and breathing and smiling!

Do you have advice for me on this? How do you get into that space?

A Happy Birthday

Just Around the House, Early in the Morning

Though I have been scorned for it,
let me never be afraid to use the word beautiful.
For within is the shining leaf
and the blossoms of the geranium at the window.
And the eyes of the happy puppy as he wakes.
The colors of the old and beloved afghan lying
by itself, on the couch, in the morning sun.
The hummingbird’s nest perched now in a
corner of the bookshelf, in front of so many
books of so many colors.
The two poached eggs. The buttered toast.
The ream of brand-new paper just opened,
white as a block of snow.
The typewriter humming, ready to go.

Lauren & Skuyler | Engaged!

They met in class when she was just 19. She thought he was much older, so she didn’t think much of it, except that she thought he was cute. He thought she was pretty cute too and smart as well (a big A+ in his book). They hung out, just as friends, at first. After all, Skuyler was Lauren’s Chemistry TA, so dating, or even hanging out was really not an option. But, it’s fair to say…they had “chemistry” together. (Thank you, I’ll be here all night. Be sure to tip your waiter.)

When the quarter was over, they quickly began hanging out and then, eventually dating. And here they are. It’s graduation weekend at WSU in Pullman, Washington and Lauren’s just graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering! And Skuyler, who is working on his PhD, has come back to WSU to watch his now fiancé walk across the stage to receive her diploma. In just over a month these two will be married and on their way to live together in Denver!!

These two seriously brought it for their engagement session! I think it’s fair to say that one of them is copper and the other is tellurium, because they are CuTe! (Chemistry jokes!!! I die!!!)

Jill & Shay | Engaged!

It’s pretty much a guarantee that if you own a dog as sweet and cute as little Gia (seen below), I’m going to love you. But, there’s about a million other reasons why I love these guys, besides that! For one, Jill & Shay are super creative! When I walked into their house and saw all of the art and the way they had it decorated, I was pretty sure we were going to get along. And, these two are just down-to-earth, chill people…the kind that you want to have in your life–for the rest of your life. Oh, and did I mention, they are funnny (three “n’s”)! I loved watching Jill and Shay just be together and laugh! And, well, again…their dog, Gia…this dog, you guys, just made my heart melt! While we were at the 1000 Acres dog park she chased snakes, while we chased the good light. After that, she got a little tuckered, so while we headed farther out into the Columbia River Gorge, just past Hood River, Oregon, she fell asleep and took a good, long nap while we spent time at Rowena Overlook in Mosier, Oregon.

And if that’s not enough, I ALREADY received a hand-written thank you note in the mail from them!! Thanks, you two, for pretty much being the best!
